Roadtrip 2019 Fall: Vancouver - Richland - Twin Falls - Provo - Kanab - Yucca Valley - Paso Robles - Sacramento - Brookings - Yachats - Cannon Beach - Vancouver

Day 9 - Cottonwood Canyon

The Cottonwood Canyon Road is a lonely, long, dusty, sandy, bumpy thing.  Perfect for truck.

We find a perfect picnic spot along the Cottonwood River.

We venture into the Cottonwood Canyon.

We head up an unnamed side canyon before attempting the main Cottonwood Narrows.  In many ways, the side canyon is more interesting.

Survival is tough.

The sky is just a slit above.

It's mid afternoon – so just small streams of light make their way through.

The rocks are always watching.  And waiting.

Ellie is our chief navigator.

The Embrace.

It's like a canyon icicle.

The canyon spirits have come out to play – they're preparing for Halloween.

Russ defies gravity with a sideways navigation technique.

Ellie has found her canyon spirit guide – a wily coyote provides her oversight.

Time for a quick game of Shuttle Runner.

Ellie's canyon spirit guide has granted permission to run the canyon "full throttle".

We're not quite sure how this tangled mop of plant matter has managed to attach itself to the canyon wall.

No way forward in this side canyon.

We choose a path more easily navigated.

….. and are rewarded with a view of this massive arch.

Still watching.

Almost time for summit snacks.

Small signs of the season.

Ellie Ellie Odd Sock Freeeeeeeeeeeeee.

The Grosvenor Arch is one of the must see things along this track.

Running out of daylight and with miles to go, we take a quick sidetrip to visit the World Famous Grosvenor Arch.  That's it. And way out here, in the middle of nowhere, somebody put in a nice concrete sidewalk.  It's probably the only sidewalk for a many miles.
